The Toronto Police Service will not be moving forward with implementing new gunshot-detection technology ShotSpotter due to legal concerns, Police Chief Mark Saunders confirms.

As a result of research and based on the technology that exists, we were given the opinion that ShotSpotter technology could compromise section 8 of the Charter of Rights, specifically unreasonable search & seizure. We are still exploring other ways of addressing gun violence ^sm

They know that a certain community would complain about this. It is just a coincidence that the majority of the shooters and the victims come from that community..

Listening for public gunfire does not violate privacy rights. TorontoPolice are allergic to collecting crime statistics for reasons of political correctness.
