That was Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden criticizing Sixers team president Daryl Morey during an Adidas ADS media event in China this week. Harden, a 10-time All-Star and 2018 NBA MVP, has tried to force his way off his third team in three years. Harden blossomed into a star with the Houston Rockets in 2012 — when Morey ran the team — until he demanded a trade to the Brooklyn Nets. The Rockets eventually agreed and shipped him to the Nets in 2021.
Harden has been one of the top players in the league over the last decade, but has seen his play decline some in the last few years. He led the NBA in assists this season, but took a back seat to the league’s Most Valuable Player, Joel Embiid, who scored 33.1 points per game last season compared to Harden’s 21. During Harden’s 2018 MVP season, he led the league with 30.4 points per game.
So what happens if Harden remains on the Sixers roster, but refuses to show up to training camp? He could be on the hook for some fines.
