The Utah Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether health care providers can continue offering elective abortions, while determining what rights are protected in Utah.

Taylor Meehan, a Chicago-based attorney with boutique law firm Consovoy McCarthy, opened the state’s arguments by summarizing the state’s history of regulating abortion. Sen. Because abortion was banned when the Constitution was ratified, Meehan said justices should interpret that clause to not include that right.
