If Issue 1 passes, it may become more challenging for those seeking to enshrine abortion rights or legalize marijuana in Ohio. The initiative aims to make it harder to amend the state's constitution, coinciding with the upcoming decision on the 'heartbeat bill' that could ban abortions after six weeks.

Voters in Ohio will decide Tuesday whether to make it harder to amend the state's constitution. The initiative comes just three months before voters will decide whether to overturn the state legislature's"heartbeat bill," which would effectively ban abortions after six weeks.

The issue was placed on the ballot by Ohio's GOP-led legislature. Sixty-seven of the 99 members of the Ohio House are Republican, while 26 Republicans serve in the 33-member Senate. Many of the bill's proponents have not shied away from the fact that this effort is being made ahead of a November vote that could once again legalize abortion in Ohio.
