The liquor traders association is arguing that the cuts in trading hours negatively affects the industry.
The Limpopo Liquor Act came into effect on August 1. Since then, traders have been able to sell alcohol on Sundays in the province.The National Liquor Traders Association however believes moving closing time to midnight, from 2 AM will lead to job loses, both in the liquor and entertainment industries.
“We hope that the court will judge in our favour because we don’t want to see businesses suffering. As you know, we’ve indicated and showed that the Limpopo government and this department cannot be trusted. They have clearly shown that they do undermine small businesses at large in the community,” says Deputy Chairperson of the Sekhukhune Liquor Traders Association Sello Mokwana.
