”There are lies and there are stories and there’s strange sex and strange love, but there’s no defense,” prosecutor Brandi Mitchell said in closing arguments. “There is but one victim here. One victim: James Faith.”
Lopez took the stand Thursday, at times tearful and at others matter-of-fact, as he explained his actions and insisted he believed Jennifer Faith’s lies that Jamie Faith was a “monster.” He said he was “devastated” to learn he had taken an innocent life.
Lopez called Faith “Angel” and sent long emails proclaiming his love. In other communications they shared sexual fantasies. Evidence showed Faith texted a friend in April 2020 that she was “pretty much having a full-blown emotional affair.”Emails between Lopez and an account Jennifer Faith used to pose as her husband described graphic details of torture and abuse that never happened.
