Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign called the newest charges filed against him in the federal classified documents case a 'desperate and flailing attempt' by the Department of Justice to harass the former president.

Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign called the newest charges filed against him in the federal classified documents case a"desperate and flailing attempt" by the Department of Justice to harass the former president.

Trump had three new charges brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith in the federal case involving his alleged mishandling of classified documents after he left office in 2021. The new charges in the case bring the total to 40."This is nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their Department of Justice to harass President Trump and those around him," Trump's campaign said in a statement Thursday night.

"Deranged Jack Smith knows that they have no case and is casting about for any way to salvage their illegal witch hunt and to get someone other than Donald Trump to run against Crooked Joe Biden," the statement continued.

The new indictments come as Trump is widely expected to be indicted by a grand jury in Washington, D.C., on charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump is also under a grand jury investigation in Georgia for his actions following the 2020 election.
