Lawyers for the city initially said the blacked out portion was exempt from disclosure because the public interest in shielding the information outweighed the public benefit of releasing the material. “This is an illegal abuse of power and a violation of our constitutional rights to know what our government officials are doing with our tax dollars,” he said.“Disputes between opposing attorneys over whether a particular piece of evidence is privileged are not uncommon,” the office said in a statement.
