Commissioner talks with confidence about Pac-12, but didn't shed light on media rights deal because he said he wanted 'the focus to be on football'

The Pac-12’s 2023 football media day was held Friday at Resorts World Las Vegas, although a more appropriate venue may have been next door at Circus Circus. That, given what Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff noted in his opening remarks as the “never-ending speculation about the timing of our media deals.”The commissioner settled for a stage in what after dark serves as a nightclub called Zouk.

The first person to quiz the commissioner questioned that, however, asking whether there has been a breakdown in communication. At one point, Kliavkoff said, “We’re not announcing a deal on purpose today because I want the focus to be on football.”“To be clear,” a reporter said, “that would imply that the deal is done and codified, and just you’re waiting until after today.”Much has been read into the situations for months given Kliavkoff had not commented since December. One fan base on the outside side continues to look on with particular interest, and frustration.
