Indigenous activists want to amend the constitution with an Indigenous Voice to Parliament to try and “squeeze out a bit more”, but the Commonwealth Parliament has been helping “for decades”, says IPA Legal Rights Program Director John Storey.

“It’s clear, over decades, that the Commonwealth Parliament is bending over backwards to try to help Indigenous people,” Mr Storey told Sky News contributor Steve Price.

“It’s the Commonwealth Parliament that passed Native Title Law that has now seen 55 per cent of Australian land handed over to Indigenous groups. “The Commonwealth Parliament did the apology for the Stolen Generations … the Parliament is doing everything it can, has done for decades to try to help Indigenous people.”
