The re-trial of footballer Benjamin Mendy continues today. The former Manchester City player, 28, denies counts of rape and attempted rape - allegations concerning two women.
The case is a re-trial. A jury previously acquitted Mr Mendy of other sexual allegations. The previous jury could not agree verdicts on the two outstanding counts he faces. The alleged attempted rape of 'Woman One' is said to have happened in October 2018, while the alleged rape of 'Woman Two' is said to have happened in October 2020. Neither women can be named for legal reasons.The trial judge is Steven Everett, the Honorary Recorder of Chester. He has told jurors the trial could last for up to three weeks.
Manchester City recently confirmed Mr Mendy's contract with the club expires after June 30. He will not stay on at the Etihad.
