Convicted drug kingpin Glenn Agliotti passed away at a Johannesburg hospital on Friday night, 30 June 2023, as confirmed by Gauteng police. Agliotti played a significant role in the 2010 corruption trial of former police commissioner Jackie Selebi:

, Agliotti was alleged to have provided Selebi with money and clothing as part of a mutually beneficial arrangement. In return, Selebi reportedly shared confidential information with Agliotti to shield him from criminal investigations, this according to theThe state claimed that Selebi accepted over R1.2 million from Agliotti and was accused of obstructing justice by divulging confidential police reports to him.

Selebi received a 15-year prison sentence but was granted medical parole in 2012, less than a year into his term. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 64. In 2007, Agliotti was convicted of drug dealing and received a suspended sentence. He was also the primary suspect in the murder case of mining magnate Brett Kebble, but was ultimately acquitted of the charges.
