THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will conduct two elections in 2025 after the Supreme Court (SC) declared as unconstitutional the postponement and rescheduling of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to Oct. 30, 2023 from Dec. 5, 2022.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia on Thursday said that as result of the High Court's ruling, the poll body has to double up its preparations because the midterm elections are also scheduled for May 2025.'Comelec has to prepare double time because we will conduct two elections in 2025, the May 2025 national and local elections which are automated and the December 2025 barangay and SK elections ordered by the Supreme Court,' Garcia further said at the Laging Handa public briefing.

In declaring Republic Act 11935, the law postponing the BSKE, as unconstitutional, the Court also ruled that the next BSKE 'shall be held on the first Monday of December 2025 and every three years thereafter...'The Court pointed out that RA 11935 violates the freedom of suffrage 'as it failed to satisfy the requisitesly of the substantive aspect of the due process clause of the Constitution.
