According to Bernama, Divagaran Uthaya Sooriyam pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out to him before magistrate Nurdiyanah Mohd Nawawi. The charge filed against Divagaran falls under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
However, defense counsel V Vickneswari requested a reduced bail amount, pointing out that the accused was the sole breadwinner of the family and had to care for his elderly parents.
