DeSantis rails against 'scurrilous' attacks on Thomas, Alito -

Mr. DeSantis, a 2024 presidential contender, said he will nominate justices to the high court that are cut from the same cloth as Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

Mr. DeSantis said if Democrats outperform Republicans in the 2024 election they will seek to pack the Supreme Court with liberal-leaning justices. Mr. Thomas and Mr. Alito have faced questions over their failure to report gifts and recuse themselves from cases. Justice Thomas did not disclose the payments in his financial disclosure forms, and the news outlet suggested that runs afoul of ethical standards required of a federal judge.

Justice Alito accepted Alaska resort vacation from GOP donors, report saysSupreme Court Justice Samuel Alito accepted a 2008 trip to a luxury fishing lodge in Alaska from two wealthy Republican donors, one of whom repeatedly had interests before the court. That's according to the nonprofit investigative journalism organization ProPublica, which also reported that that the conservative jurist did not disclose the trip on his financial disclosure that year. Alito flew to the fishing lodge aboard the private plane of billionaire Republican donor Paul Singer, whose hedge fund has brought roughly a dozen cases before the court. Alito did not recuse himself from participating in any of those cases. His accomodations at the lodge were paid for by another wealthy donor. Alito said ProPublica “misleads” readers. Alito vigorously disputed the findings in a Wall Street Journal opinion article released before ProPublica published its story, stating he faced no obligation to disclose the details of the trip or recuse himself from cases involving a donor's hedge fund.
