In 2014, a Texas program that intervenes when patients receive a surprise medical bill was asked to mediate 686 bills. Its coverage was expanded in 2017, and in 2018, it received 4,445 bills. Still, critics say not enough people know the program exists.

You should not have to have this. Additional program means additional money spent. Cut red tape. One program/insurer
