THE Department of Justice yesterday confirmed that prisoner John Adrian “Jad” Dera, a co-accused in one of the dismissed of the illegal drug cases filed against former senator Leila de Lima, had managed to briefly go out of his detention facility in connivance with five security officers of the National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday night.

Dera and his security escorts were arrested upon their return to the NBI headquarters by a task force composed of NBI agents that was immediately created after the justice department received information about Dera’s whereabouts. Clavano said they are still waiting for NBI’s report as to how long the illegal activity has been going on and the real reason for Dera’s trip out of his detention last Tuesday.

As of yesterday, Clavano said investigators are still determining the charges to be filed against Dera and the security officers.Clavano added that among the possible cases to be filed in connection with the incident are violation of the Revised Penal Code on handling of detainees, bribery and corruption.

“I can’t give the amount yet. I don’t want to give an amount that is unverified yet. The firearms also, there’s no number that was given to me yet. So, this is just a very preliminary report,” Clavano pointed out. Teves is under preliminary investigation before the DOJ for allegedly masterminding the killing of Degamo and nine others last March 4.
