RODEO — On Sept. 11, 2022, Contra Costa Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a group of teenagers lured 19-year-old Ayden Pacheco to a playground on Coral Drive and that four of them violently assaulted him when he arrived.
Last month, Contra Costa prosecutors charged Pacheco with 11 felonies, including forcible rape, assault with intent to commit rape, forcible sexual penetration, oral copulation with a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, and forcible oral copulation. The charges relate to two alleged victims, a young woman in her teens and a girl, with the final alleged incident occurring just hours before Pacheco was attacked in the park.
The sexual assault investigation started when one of the deputies responding to the park assault approached a group of Pacheco’s alleged attackers, and spoke to them individually. One of them, a young woman known in court records as Jane Doe 1, told the deputy she needed to report something about Pacheco.
She also explained the plan to lure Pacheco to the park was her idea, but that the plan was to confront him and get him to confess what he’d done.
