Justice Minister Helen McEntee also confirmed that there is “no specific field” on the Garda system PULSE which “relates” to having no insurance.

However, figures provided to Fine Gael’s Alan Farrell by Justice Minister Helen McEntee show that just 1,138 people have received penalty points for driving uninsured so far this year.

She did confirm, however, that 1,138 penalty point notices were issued between January and April of this year.Between 2018 and April 2023, a total of 18,764 penalty point notices were issued. The numbers have fallen steadily over the last number of years. There were 33,894 charges or summonses in 2018, 31,954 in 2019 and 30,192 in 2020.
