THE Public Attorney's Office (PAO) has sought a dialogue with the Supreme Court in connection with the 'detrimental' provisions under the newly approved Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA) that will endanger the 'life and limb' of public lawyers, among others.

PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta on Monday told The Manila Times she and other key agency officials have written Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo and other top magistrates for a dialogue to explain to them why they want Section 22, Canon III of Administrative Matters 22-09-01-SC deleted or removed from the CPRA.PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta.

Rueda-Acosta said the PAO's clients, mostly indigents and underprivileged, have the pre-conceived notion that justice would be elusive to them because they are poor, and allowing PAO to represent their adversaries would further increase their reservations and distrust of the justice system.'Ultimately, allowing PAO lawyers to go against each other in one particular criminal or civil case creates the impression that the justice system in the Philippines is a sham,' she said.
