The Human Rights Campaign has declared a state of emergency for LGBTQ people living in the United States.

Why? Because multiple state legislatures are creating a relentless onslaught of anti-trans and anti-gay laws. This political wildfire of misinformed and manipulative legislation is creating “increasingly hostile and dangerous environments for LGBTQ+ people,” the HRC wrote in its declaration.

I’ve tried to imagine how people might react if the focus were on another demographic group. Here’s a few examples from my imagination:-How would the families of patients needing immunotherapy handle laws that stopped the treatment?-Would anyone be upset if lawmakers outlawed breastfeeding?Considering other possibilities illuminates how threatening and inconceivable this current conservative-based collective of anti-gay laws is becoming.

It’s been a difficult week. There’s been a lot to process, and there is an extreme shortage of ways to make sense of any of it. Maybe that’s because politicians have created threats that don’t exist and are pushing laws that create divisions.I hope lots and lots of all kinds of people read the. Straight people, cisgender folks and all manner of persons would do well to at least look through it, as it spells out the real and present dangers of just existing as an LGBGQ+ person.
