Hunter Bryan Fraser, 44, parked his car at the Deer Ridge Trailhead on June 5 for a 40-mile hike. When he did not make contact with family members, they reported him missing on June 7. He wasby the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office as"well-supplied" and"an extremely experienced solo hiker." Search-and-rescue teams from multiple counties and agencies descended on the park, but Fraser ended up being the one who rescued himself, Olympic National Park. On June 10, he"self-rescued via the Dosewallips River Trail with the assistance of other hikers" and was driven to Quilcene, Wash., to reunite with family.
Fraser was charged with felony domestic violence in connection with an alleged incident with his then-girlfriend last summer. According to documents
