Court heard in one of the robberies, the man pointed a gun at an employee at the Circle K convenience store on Ruth Street, demanding money.

“ could see the video and compare it, and there was no question it was the same person who had done it,” Crown prosecutor Melodi Kujawa told court.

Judge Doug Agnew accepted the joint submission — a four-year mandatory minimum sentence for robbery with a firearm, another one and a half years for the other robbery, and concurrent sentences on the three remaining charges. “Parliament has said we have to treat that situation much more seriously than a simple robbery — a simple robbery being terrifying enough for the people it’s happening to.”

Marcotte apologized to the employees, saying “My intentions were not to harm anyone those nights. My intentions were to keep a little boy off the street.”
