The Netherlands' Public Prosecution Service has confirmed that they are now prosecuting the winger for drug-trafficking after he was found in possession of two batches, said to be about 650kg and 713kg, of cocaine at the port of Antwerp in Belgium in January 2020. With Promes also suspected of being involved in a criminal drug enterprise, his pre-trial hearing is set to take place on Monday, 5 June.
Although the former Sevilla attacker currently plays his football in Russia, the court proceedings may continue without him present if a lawyer appointed by him appears on his behalf.
