SIS wants the Federal Court to strike down a fatwa by the Selangor religious authorities, which it says wrongly characterises the group’s beliefs and practices.
Lawyer Majdah Muda, representing the Selangor fatwa committee and Selangor Islamic Religious Council , said the hearing date was fixed during case management earlier this month. It is seeking to nullify the fatwa, arguing that it wrongly characterises the group’s beliefs and practices. In March, SIS saw its appeal to the Court of Appeal turned away.
Ruzima said a fatwa made by the state religious authorities was not “conclusive” and could be amended or revoked at any time.
