A nine-year-old girl who was abducted in 2017 has been found alive and well after a shopkeeper recognised her from a Netflix crime documentary.
In the years following Kayla's disappearance, The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children shared several missing alerts online as well as digital pictures of how she would look now. The schoolgirl was eventually spotted by a store owner in Asheville, North Carolina last weekend after he recognised her from an episode of Netflix documentary series, Unsolved Mysteries.
She has been charged by Kane County State's Attorney with one charge of child abduction. Kayla, who is now aged 15, is currently in protective custody with her dad Ryan. She told ABC: 'It is unusual but it's good that when someone does suspect that they recognise someone, no matter how old the story might be, that they are not afraid to give us a call so we can come and investigate."
