as part of myriad policy proposals being drawn up by the party ahead of a general election.
The party has worked up proposals to make “flexible working the default from day one for all workers, except where it is not reasonably feasible” as part of the early stages of developing a future manifesto. The plan is one of scores of policies listed in an 86-page policy handbook that is being developed by the party as an early blueprint that will eventually shape Labour’s general election manifesto.
Handing people the legal right to work from home from their first day in the job is likely to be hugely popular for employees but one which could cause major problems for the businesses. While Labour has refused to comment on the document, which was leaked to grassroots website Labour List, such a policy could prove difficult for a party that has positioned itself as pro-business.There are no guarantees the proposal will end up as official party policy by the time the general election manifesto is produced.
