Some of the money bet on apps and in sportsbooks in Arizona might not represent an increase in gambling activity, Sallaz said. Some of those gamblers might have opted to bet in Arizona versus traveling to Las Vegas to place their Super Bowl bets, he said. Wagers like sports betting and gaming in tribal casinos or horse racing tracks are bigger revenue generators than the lottery, Jim Rounds, president of Rounds Consulting Group, said.
