PETA has thrown its support behind Marvel and director James Gunn over the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, labelling it an 'animal rights masterpiece'.

The final instalment of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy was released in the United States last week and has already received a profit on its $250 million budget.

PETA have recognised Gunn with its Not a Number award"in honor of the millions of real animals who endure needless experiments at the hands of cruel corporations," the award signed by President Ingrid Newkirk said. "PETA recognises and thanks James Gunn for the unflinching advocacy in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, reminding viewers that all animals deserve a life of freedom under the open sky rather than confinement to laboratory cages."
