AN odd job worker will serve 25 years in prison and receive 24 strokes of the rotan for raping his stepdaughter in 2015.
Justice Kamaludin Md Said, who led a three-member Court of Appeal bench, told the 41-year-old defendant that 25 years was reasonable for each one of five rape charges, each term to run concurrently. In dismissing the appeal, Kamaludin added that it was in his power to sentence the defendant to 30 years for each offence and for each term to be served consecutively.
On February 27, 2019, Kluang Sessions Court found the man guilty of five counts of raping his then 13-year-old stepdaughter, sentenced him to 25 years in prison and 10 strokes of the rotan. His appeal to reduce sentence was dismissed by Muar High Court on October 14, 2020. – Bernama, May 5, 2023.
