The NBA crowned Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers the league’s Most Valuable Player Tuesday night, the first-ever MVP award for the 7-foot Cameroon native who rode his on-court success to off-court millions.

Embiid grew his off-court earnings from $8 million last year to $10 million over the last 12 months, according to’ latest estimates, thanks largely to endorsement deals with Crypto.com, Google and Under Armour.

, adding he has picked the brains of billionaire businessmen such as Michael Rubin and Robert Kraft to teach him “the best model to go from rich to wealthy.”Embiid was the first overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft after immigrating to the U.S. as a teenager, but the smooth-shooting center missed the entirety of his first two seasons due to foot injuries.
