Human Resource Ministry to amend union recognition process

Human Resource Minister V. Sivakumar says migrant workers must be ensured the same rights and protection as local employees. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 1, 2023.

Human Resource Minister V. Sivakumar said the matter would be given due attention by the government since there are employers who refuse to recognise unions in their companies. At the same time, the government is also studying pensions for the private sector, employment guarantees, workers’ health schemes and insurance, plus migrant worker welfare.

“The issue of foreign workers’ welfare also needs to be given due attention and action. We must ensure that migrant workers are protected by the laws and given their rights, just like local employees,” he said.
