A test case for China’s MeToo movement: via nytimes

The experience of Xingxing highlights the challenges many Chinese women face in trying to report sexual abuse. The authorities often side with men in such cases, activists say, and rarely investigate accusations of rape and sexual assault.

Such informal arrangements are common in China, where adoption is strictly regulated. But the practice can lead to abuse, activists say, giving parents incentive to sell their children for financial gain and providing a vehicle for human trafficking. Mr. Bao, who also goes by the name Robert Y. Bao, could not be reached for comment. He has described himself as a graduate of the University of Bridgeport, in Connecticut, who has advised prominent multinational companies, including Cisco and News Corp.

The police in Yantai, a city in eastern China where Mr. Bao worked, said in a statement posted on social media last week that they had reopened an investigation into the case.

Duh! Why would you trust him?

It’s more likely that the mother sold her daughter. How could any sensible mum have a single man raise her girl who is not his daughter or relatives? As a reporter at NYTimes, I expected more from you.

he is American

NYT is a propaganda outlet for the Corporate Democratic establishment. Hopefully they go out of business soon. How long will you gaslight your readers/ viewers?

Hey look we care about metoo again

by the way, this businessmsn is anamerican attorney who work for USA government in the ZTE company.

When he is successful businessman and lawyer he is Chinese elite, when he becomes a raper he is an American ,that’s how dual passports work in China, Me too should be Me decrying , I don’t think Chinese girls have courage to expose their bruises

Who sends off a 14 year old girl to live with a businessman?

Wow. Shocker

and the women and 7 others who accused Biden there being silenced,

It is difficult to raise voice against outrages in China.

Really China me too you need a career change sad

This man may have a pedophile habit. China is investigating him and estimates that he will be sentenced. The man deserves the crime.

The mom is suspicious although she said she had a relationship with the man and in her culture she believed an adoption could save the daughter from a bad fate...🤦‍♀️ she deserves an investigation too.

Creepy..

the businessman is an American lawyer!!!why Nytime didn't mention this?

Many mothers sent their 14 year daughters to Epstein and never bother to investigate, shame on these parents. Not a Me Too movement just parental negligence and stupid daughters.

again. very good propaganda. nyt. you can also share a news of how the 99% local ppl love the city of Beijing. like me. instead of digging a shit of weird news that only shows the bad part of the city.

It’s said the man is a American lawyer.

NATO I think I've an idea on how to resolve identifications: Can't analyze history/behavior coherence, because of subjectivity ranges? Need to check physicality? How? Don't make any new child porn, but extant ones may elicit arousal, or rage, or *, based on subject criteria?

The young woman at the age of 18 who uses the pseudonym Xingxing has given her account of the abuse .

You have the audacity to use metoo after that “fixed” Biden story? I hope your publication is a casualty of this pandemic.

Give us a break . Get real! China has NO me-too movement! It is a totalitarian government and only allows the pretense of any humanitarian group! Who approved this idiotic 'journalism'?

Re-wrote your headline 'Sanders offers Support to Biden amidst Recent Sexual Abuse Allegations'

The MeToo movement will be a punchline by next year.
