The Greens are set to announce a bill to parliament next month to freeze rent prices for the next two years.

The proposed legislation would also give the Treasurer power to overrule the Reserve Bank and freeze interest rates.

The Greens’ proposal aims to give renters and homeowners some reprieve as mortgage holders struggle with rapid rate rises. Greens Leader Adam Bandt has vowed to block the government’s $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund if Labor doesn’t back their bill.
