A LAWYER has filed a complaint against streaming giant Netflix for portraying Cleopatra VII as a Black woman instead of as “an Egyptian”.has been accused of “Blackwashing” and has aimed to “erase the Egyptian identity” in their depiction of the ancient queen.
He added that “in order to preserve the Egyptian national and cultural identity among Egyptians all over the world, there must be pride in the makings of such work.” A top archaeologist was reported to have said that therefore the ancient queen was “light-skinned, not Black”. Another said: “It’s not about hating black people It’s about faking history, yes Egypt is in North Africa but we’re not black African.”
Cleopatra was born in the Egyptian city of Alexandria in 69 BC and was the last queen of Alexander the Great’s Greek dynasty before the North African country was ruled by the Romans.
