I'm surprised the Dems let you report this

Not Enough money for the suffering he went through which ultimately was the reason he ended his life.....3.3 million not even close to what you owe him and many more

We have so many brilliant legal minds but not one is gutsy enough to take on shaking up the justice system! The scales of justice misrepresented by too many measurement standards. Jurists need more realistic sentencing guidelines as well. This case sounds almost 'vendetta'.

This was an injustice.

Unbelievable! Why keep someone in jail (3 years!!) for stealing a backpack?! Senseless

This should just not happen!

I wonder who in the family the money goes to since he died in 2015 and his mom in 2016. I suppose his dad or siblings.

Not my first time hearing the terrible story of a young man who’s future was taken away from him. Although the family deserves some restitution I am sure they would rather have there Son, Brother, nephew...

abatchelor

Holy shit that story is heartbreaking. How have I not heard about this before? I think $3.3m is just above the threshold of 'decent' for the family, but not nearly enough to be punitive for the state of New York. They should be absolutely shamed in the media and in their wallets.
