Although there are graphic images of Thompson's jail cell and his body and face after he was found, the medical examiner could not determine the cause of death, according to family attorneys. Family attorneys, community members and family held a press conference Thursday to demand the Department of Justice investigate the jail."He wasn’t the only one who was affected by those insects and bedbugs in that entire wing, but he was the only one that we know of who died," Harper said during the press conference.
Sheriff Labat joined the family at the Thursday press conference, offering his condolences and answering questions from the community. According to Harper, Senator Jon Ossoff also called for the DOJ to begin an investigation and Labat shared at the press conference that he has been “in contact” with Ossoff's office.
