Further testimony was heard in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town about the circumstances surrounding the murder of five-year-old Linathi Solontyi.for the murder of a child in their care says she had no one to turn to when he allegedly became abusive.
A Cape Town woman on trial with her ex-fiancé for murdering five-year-old Linathi Solontyi, who they initially thought was his daughter, denied allegations that she was a violent drug addict. She testified that he would come home late, drunk, and hit her, but she told nobody about this or his alleged abuse of Linathi, because she feared him.He set out the couple's punishing schedule. Manyama had three jobs: from 05:30, he did scholar transport in the area; between 08:00 and 16:30, he was a panel beater. When he knocked off, he fetched Kampher's baby and Linathi from the creche. He took the children home, made them supper, bathed them and got them ready for bed.
"The reason I am giving you these times is because he hasn't got time to sit and drink and get drunk," Roberts said to her. Linathi was Manyama's daughter from a previous relationship. She lived with her grandmother, and Manyama would send money, food and clothes to support her. One day Linathi's biological mother arrived with the little girl to say Linathi's granny was not coping.
She was transferred to the Red Cross Children's Hospital and was in a coma with tubes and pipes all over her small body. Staff there were also concerned about her background and how she came to be so severely injured from a fall down steps. A paediatrician examined her, and his findings were heartbreaking. He testified that she was covered in burns and bruises and was filthy. There were also signs that she had been raped.
