Gershkovich, the first U.S. journalist to be detained in Russia since the Cold War, was detained while reporting in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on March 29. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted on espionage charges. "We're making it real clear that it's totally illegal what's happening, and we declared it so," Mr. Biden said. On Tuesday, U.S. ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy said she visited Gershkovich in prison, the first time since his detention. She reiterated the U.S.' call for his immediate release and said"he is in good health and remains strong."
