Kryptonians are some of the most powerful species in the entire DC Universe, as proved by Superman, but one of the Man of steel's fellow members of the Justice League Black Lightning, proved that he could be humanity's best defense against any evil or rogue Kryptonians.
Jefferson Pierce is one of the many street-level heroes that aren't used much by DC Comics but have unbelievable potential. Jefferson first had his powers through technology, wearing a special belt that let him generate lightning, but eventually, it was revealed that he was in fact a metahuman with latent powers which allowed him to control lightning. While being able to control lightning is certainly impressive, it pales in comparison to super speed, flight, invulnerability, or heat vision.

During an incident where some Kryptonians kill a group of prison guards , the Justice League assembles to try and bring them in. Readers got to see this in Superman #683 by James Robinson, Renato Guedes, and Jorge Correa Jr.
Kryptonians gain their power due to the radiations of a yellow sun, but under a red sun Superman completely loses his strength due to the different wavelengths of the radiations absorbed by his cells. This would explain how things like red solar lamps are able to depower Superman. It also means that Jefferson's "red lightning" is somehow mirroring the light emitted by a red sun, thus momentarily turning off the powers of a Kryptonian and hurting him as a consequence.
Despite being a street-level hero who often deals with gang-related crime, Jefferson Pierce has shown that he's capable of taking down some of the strongest people not just on the planet, but in the universe. Jefferson never showed this specific use of his lightning powers again, but it's absolutely canon and it may come in handy in the future, making Black Lightning one of the best defenses Earth has against any Kryptonian that might go rogue, including Superman turning evil.
