Hinterberger’s lawyer, Richard Addelman, declined to comment on the case or its resolution.
He was charged with sexual assault and other criminal offences after his arrest on Sept. 30, 2019, when police executed a search warrant of Hinterberger’s home and seized a restricted Lee Enfield rifle and a Browning semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, according to court records. Johnston accepted Hinterberger’s guilty plea to lesser charges as part of an agreement that was finalized last month between the Crown’s office and Hinterberger’s defence team.
The Ministry of the Attorney General confirmed in an email this week that Hinterberger pleaded guilty to the assault, weapons and breach of trust charges and received a conditional sentence. Hinterberger was a patrol supervisor prior to his suspension but previously worked in the professional standards section, the unit that investigates officer misconduct. He also previously worked in the security intelligence section, where officers triage local terrorism cases and monitor incidents of hate and extremism in the city.Article content
