A House committee has approved a bill that would ban certain medical treatments for transgender minors, moving the legislation within a few steps of becoming...

on Thursday. “[Abbott] is trusting us to get a bill to his desk that he can sign.”The bill passed Friday differs from the version that passed on the Senate floor 10 days ago, according to a copy Oliverson’s staff provided to. It would still prohibit doctors from providing gender-affirming treatments like puberty blockers, hormone therapy or surgery “to transition a child’s biological sex” and require the state medical board to revoke the medical licenses of violators.

These patients also would not be allowed to switch medications or begin a new course of treatment that the bill prohibits, and doctors would be required to “wean” them off this care “in a manner that is safe and medically appropriate and that minimizes the risk of complications.” As in previous versions, the bill would still bar taxpayer money from entities or individuals that provide these treatments to minors. It does not prohibit the same treatments for intersex youth, or for nontransgender youth experiencing issues like precocious puberty.

The American Medical Association, American Psychological Association and other national physicians’ groups all support age-appropriate and individualized medical treatments for minors experiencing gender dysphoria, including puberty blockers and hormone therapy.

Good. It's about time that Texas stops this crap from happening here. People can go get their kids castrated in a different state. Not here.

I noticed lmcgaughy left out that the Texas Medical Association no longer supports these treatments. Seems like a big part of the story... unless you're trying to push a specific narrative.
