Well, after he passed, myself, my wife, and our kids went over to grandma’s house to try to put some of his effects in order and keep her company. We were rooting through the attic when we discovered a locked box. My son eventually jimmied it open, and we found some shocking contents. There was a pistol , some documents in Hebrew that none of us could read, and 11 separate passports with photos of him looking about 30-to-40, all made out to different names.
My children took it badly. They’re generally somewhat anti-Israel in general, and especially since Netanyahu’s re-election, are quite upset with the state. That’s fine and all, I don’t intend to police adult children’s political beliefs, but they’re taking out their disappointment and anger at their grandfather’s secret profession on their grandmother, which I cannot abide. Even if she’s not my mother, the disrespect involved is intolerable to my wife and myself.
Interesting, grandchildren of a (purported) Mossad hero are anti-Israel, and will never forgive their Grandfather in law for being a patriot. That says more about the Daughter in Law than it does about the Grandfather.
