He was facing the possibility of losing his law license after judges in two separate cases found he had engaged in professional misconduct.

He became involved with Sims in September 2015. A court psychiatrist later concluded by that date, Sims, who had suffered a stroke in late 2014, was mentally incapacitated and thus unable to make important decisions.

The court removed Ross as Sims' counsel, but the bar says he later attempted to avoid the court’s orders in continuing to assert his authority by attempting to create a new trust. Ross and/or his client allegedly filed four special warranty deeds on parcels of land in Val Verde County that conveyed a half interest in the property to his client from her mother’s estate in August 2021 even though disputed claims of ownership were pending in a court case.
