Montana's attorney general said he is hopeful that a pending statewide ban of TikTok he helped author could help set a legal precedent for a national ban on the social media platform.

Montana Republicans are hoping to be the first in the nation to pass an outright ban on TikTok, which also faces legislative threats in Congress. Critics, though, say the bill violates freedom of speech. But Attorney General Austin Knudsen said he is eager to see the legislation face litigation after enactment.Washington Examiner

."And candidly, that's part of the reason that we brought this legislation. I think this needs to go to the courts. I think this is a really, really novel, interesting area of undeveloped jurisprudence that we need the courts to step into."Knudsen noted the"town square" nature of social media and argued that such a case could deal with whether a company like TikTok should be considered a private company or public utility.

Montana close to becoming 1st state to completely ban TikTokMontana lawmakers are expected to take a big step forward on a bill to ban TikTok from operating in the state. It's a move that’s bound to face legal challenges but also serve as a testing ground for the TikTok-free America that many national lawmakers have envisioned. Montana’s proposal is more sweeping than bans in place in nearly half the states and the U.S. federal government that prohibit TikTok on government devices. The House was scheduled to hold a second hearing vote on the legislation on Thursday. If it’s approved, a final House vote would likely take place Friday, after which the bill would be forwarded to Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte. Then ban cell phones too. Smh TikTok ‘s new logo should help it against legislation…… The US certainly does need a NationalDivorce! That and/or AbolishTheSenate!
