A drug manufacturer is asking the Supreme Court to preserve access to its abortion pill free from restrictions imposed by lower court rulings, while a legal fight continues.

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration and a drug manufacturer asked the Supreme Court on Friday to preserve access to an abortion drug free from restrictions imposed by lower court rulings, while a legal fight continues.

A ruling from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals late Wednesday would prevent the pill, used in the most common abortion method, from being mailed or prescribed without an in-person visit to a doctor. It also would withdraw the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone for use beyond the seventh week of pregnancy. The FDA says it’s safe through 10 weeks.

Adding to the uncertainty, a separate federal judge in Washington on Thursday clarified his own order from last week to make clear that the FDA is not to do anything that might block mifepristone’s availability in 17 Democrat-led states suing to keep it on the market. The Texas lawsuit was filed by the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal group that also argued to overturn Roe v. Wade, and is representing anti-abortion doctors and medical organizations.

The appeals court judges in the majority in Wednesday’s decision noted that the Biden administration and mifepristone’s manufacturer “warn us of significant public consequences” that would result if mifepristone were withdrawn entirely from the market under the lower court ruling.

Legal abortions fell 6% in six months after Supreme Court overturned RoeLegal abortions in the US dropped more than 6% in the six months after SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, a testament to the new rules and regulations that now vary from state to state. There were an average of 5,377 fewer abortions per month. That's well over 60 thousand lives saved over a 1 year period... We need to do more but thankful for that at least. That is what happens when you ban stuff. So bans do work.

What can the Supreme Court Dobbs decision tell us about abortion pill challenges? The Supreme Court could be roped back into an abortion dispute due to conflicting rulings in lower courts over the drug mifepristone, nearly a year after a leak paved the way for overturning Roe v. Wade. Who leaked the Dobbs decision. Get to work Roberts. How did the leak “pave the way” for Roe being overturned? That makes literally no sense. If anything it was an attempt to stop the inevitable. And how on earth don’t they know who did it to this day?
