A Superior Court of California judge in Santa Clara County ruled that Calvary Chapel San Jose must pay $1.2 million in fines, including interest, for violating public health orders during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency.

must pay $1.2 million in fines, including interest, for violating public health orders during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency. The judge rejected the church's argument that the public health officer's orders prevented it from exercising its religious freedom or violated the Constitution.

The church routinely held large, indoor unmasked services during the coronavirus pandemic despite the health orders that applied to every entity in the county. California appeals court rejects COVID-19 fines for church "It should appear clear to all—regardless of religious affiliation—that wearing a mask while worshiping one’s god and communing with other congregants is a simple, unobtrusive, giving way to protect others while still exercising your right to religious freedom. Unfortunately, Defendants repeatedly refused to model, much less, enforce this gesture.

The Superior Court's order comes after a federal court largely dismissed Calvary's claims against the County. The remainder of the case was stayed, allowing the State court to rule, county counsel said. The County said its priority was to take care of its residents during the public health emergency and that their lawsuit against the church was to seek accountability. that I have read and agree

I didn't know judges liked issuing rulings that will obviously be overturned on appeal.

How much for the mosques have to pay?

Don’t pay. Constitutional rights aren’t null and void because of a bug going around.

tyranny

Not a fan of religions at all. But this is really effed up stuff. This County is run by schmucks.

What's worse than living in an authoritarian state that mandates useless masks/vaccines that don't stop infection/transmission? Getting fined 1.2 million for not wearing those useless masks while exercising constitutionally protected freedom to worship. California gov't sucks

Many churches are very different . It has the same collected knowledge of those hopeful generations, it’s the responsibility of the leadership to lead the flock to safety. Even , a apostle would do that.

the pandemic was as The Plague of Frogs/Flies/Firstborn. for the flock, it was about family church celebration at home. Thank goodness it wasn’t Ebola. 2020 was a time of BLM/420/lgbtq 🏳️‍🌈 protest parties/socials/gatherings many were infected then the “long COVID,”whining began.

What if they don’t pay. Don’t pay

SCC has to make up for all the tax revenue that they lost while they shut down the entire county for a year

So after we finally have statements that masks and vaccines don't work y'all still want to attack organizations that didn't want to conform... That's wild.

Just tell them it was a BLM protest.

Where's the gofundme?

It never ends? It most stop with this crap already

So what’s GavinNewsom going to pay for his numerous violations?

Appeal

Let’s wait til the appeal. It will be overturned as it has with other churches. Yet the arrogance of this judge.

Tyranny. I'm not a Christian and I don't go to church, but I can still see this SHIT for what it is 🤬

good!

Now do Amazon, Walmart, Large Chain Grocery Stores, USPS, Liquor Stores, Financial Institutions, Government, ... then, I'll climb on board.

Sheettt... no problem. They are going to collect or ask for money from church goers to pay for this fine.

Good!

Good.

While you're at it can you get them to pay taxes?
