One expert on each side is now the general rule here. While a single joint expert may be appointed once there is agreement of the parties involved, the report of the civil justice reform group has suggested Irish judges should have power to appoint a joint expert, as is the situation in England and Wales.
Some experts, the authors say, are so central to judicial decisions there is “a danger that they become almost deciders of the case”. The judge should grasp the fundamental elements of the arcane discipline subject of the expert evidence and require the expert’s opinion to be founded clearly on an explanation of the science informing that. The aim is “to return independence” to the judge.
The experts agreed by consensus that Mr Galileo Galilei was incorrect and they imprisoned him. Don't dare question the Science, for it is settled.
Like that time laoneill111 lied happily to the country repeatedly about covid to help the WEF and make himself a small fortune?
They are often not experts but ideologues masquerading 😷 as experts to further their agenda.
Totally agree.
Is that the same Peter Charleton who castigated a certain unfit-for-purpose State org whose 'experts' were so 'expert' that they 'copy and pasted' their 'report'? Forget courts; has anything been done to ensure that 'experts' don't run 'campaigns of calumny' OUTSIDE of court?
FergalBowers is this right wing extremism, surely you could not question the likes of Tony holohan!
It's a lesson the Irish media could learn. How many journalists questioned the CMO or NPHET 'experts'during covid? Instead the IT and others reported whatever they said as Truth. Undue deference was largely responsible for many scandals; it hasn't gone away.
