NEW: The Justice Department formally appealed the Texas judge's decision that seeks to block the FDA's approval of a commonly used abortion pill.

The appeal, filed in the conservative-leaning Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, argues that the anti-abortion groups that filed the initial case in Amarillo, Texas have no standing to bring the case and the district court ruling should be put on hold while the case moves forward.
