An Iyaganku chief magistrate court, on Monday, remanded one Bello Jamiu for allegedly defiling a 56-year-old woman in Oyo.The offence was said to contravene section 357 and punishable under section 358 of the criminal code, laws of Oyo state, 2000. During the trial, Emmanuel Idowu, the presiding judge, declined the defendant’s plea and directed that the suspect be remanded pending legal advice from the state directorate of public prosecution .Speaking during the trial, Femi Oluwadare, the prosecution counsel, said the suspect committed the act at about 4 pm on March 14.

Oluwadare said the victim who was battling a stroke and on a sick bed was sexually abused by the suspect without her consent.He added that the suspect committed the crime at Okikiade, Ajala area of Babanlan in Ibadan, the Oyo capital.This story is published in partnership with Report for the World, a global service program that supports local public interest journalism.
